Science

I currently work as a scientist in a start up company that aims to harness the predictive power of epigenetics and turn it into personalized tools for health and disease prevention.

During my career, I have worked with a wide range of organisms. For my PhD, I studied a non model organism called Schizosaccharomyces japonicus, a microscopic fission yeast and a distant cousin of model Schizosaccharomyces pombe. I had two main goals: set up a toolbox to use S. japonicus routinely in my (S. pombe centric) lab and investigate the curious and dimorphic growth behavior of my favorite yeast.

S. japonicus growing as a filamentous organism. Scale bar: 10µm. An image every 5min.

Before that, during my master, I worked with primary human macrophages and studied the morphological changes following an HIV-1 infection. My study focused on cytoskeleton and migration changes.

I am fascinated with the interface that exists between organisms and their environment, what exists between life and non-life. How organisms adapt, evolve & transform their surroundings and how the environment shapes evolution .
